West Park, FL – Four Hospitalized After Gas Explosion Near 20th St

West Park, FL - Four Hospitalized After Gas Explosion Near 20th St

West Park, FL (December 19, 2023) – A house in the West Park area of Miami, off of Southwest 20th Street, was leveled after what seemed to be a gas leak and explosion just after midnight on Tuesday, December 19. The explosion’s aftermath damaged several surrounding houses and vehicles and caused a family of four to sustain serious injuries. All four victims required emergency transfer to local hospitals, according to a press release. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the massive explosion, which left the house in ruins.

Two children were among the four victims, and the severe injuries sustained by three members of the family necessitated their relocation to Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. Michael Kan, a spokesperson and chief of the Broward Fire Rescue Battalion, characterized the family’s injuries as life-threatening, including burns, smoke inhalation, and blunt trauma. No additional details were released, but local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the explosion at this time.

Our thoughts and best wishes for a full recovery go out to the injured victims and their families.
