Crashes Into Buildings

CarInBldg

When we think about car accidents, we often imagine a collision between two or more vehicles. These are not, however, the only types of accidents in which a person could be involved. For instance, many people are involved in single-vehicle accidents where they collide with a stationary object, like a building. Unfortunately, the injuries and property damage sustained in these kinds of crashes is almost always severe, which means that treatment and repair costs can quickly add up for victims.

What Causes Vehicle-Building Crashes?

Most car accidents are the result of human error, like speeding, running a red light, driving under the influence, or otherwise driving recklessly. Vehicle-building crashes are no different, in that they are often the result of pedal error, where a driver accidentally hits the gas instead of the brakes, while others are caused by falling asleep at the wheel, or driving under the influence. This is not to say, however, that such collisions are always the fault of the driver who collides with the building. It is not uncommon, for instance, for traffic accidents to push vehicles into nearby buildings, or for a medical emergency to cause a driver to lose control of the vehicle. In some cases, these kinds of collisions are the result of mechanical error, such as brake failure, where a driver loses control of the vehicle entirely. In these last few examples, it is not the driver who struck the building who should be held liable for the accident, but the person or entity actually responsible for the crash.

Financial Recovery is Important

Seeking compensation from the at-fault parties who caused an accident is extremely important following vehicle-building collisions, as the results of these crashes are almost always severe. The occupants of the vehicle, for instance, will likely suffer lacerations, crushing injuries, and other traumatic injuries due to impact. Furthermore, these injuries are often worsened when the building partially collapses onto the vehicle itself, potentially even trapping the victim inside. Treating these injuries can be prohibitively expensive, as can repairing or replacing the vehicle involved in the accident. Fortunately, these costs, as well as lost wages, disability, and pain and suffering can be recovered from the at-fault party who caused the crash if the victim can prove that he or she was negligent. This in turn, will require an in-depth investigation into the crash, which can quickly become complicated if a third party driver or vehicle manufacturer bears some part of the blame. Having an attorney on your side can make all the difference when pursuing this kind of case.
