Single Car Crash On Sawgrass Expressway Kills Three
Three people lost their lives during a single-vehicle crash during overnight hours on the Sawgrass Expressway recently. According to police, the vehicle hit a concrete barrier and, despite one of the occupants use of a seat belt, all three of the riders were killed as a result of the accident. Police are trying to determine the reason for the crash and whether speeding or the rainy weather contributed to the accident.
Bad Weather’s Contribution To Safe Driving Issues
In Florida, we are fortunate enough to not have to deal with a lot of the dangerous cold weather driving conditions such as snow and ice that the majority of the rest of the country has to learn to drive in. We do, however, have our share of equally dangerous driving conditions with which we must contend. Driving in and of itself is dangerous, even in the best of weather conditions – but add to that a hard rain or thunderstorm, fog, wind, or a combination of the three, and even the most experienced driver can have a tough time.
Safety Tips For Driving In Rainy Conditions
Driving in rain is something that everyone has to do at some time or another, particularly in Florida where we get short rain storms popping up quite frequently. Though they typically clear out quickly, they can present a challenge on the roads before they blow over. Keeping a few safety tips in mind can help to keep you safe when the weather is uncooperative. Some of the most important things to keep in mind include:
- Make sure your windshield wipers are in good shape and use water repellant on your windshield. Keeping your windshield clean and clear during a rain storm is necessary to ensure you have as much visibility as possible.
- Make sure your lights are on and working properly. You need to be able to see and other drivers need to be able to see you to keep everyone safe.
- Pay attention to the road surface. Take note of and avoid driving through pooling water; this can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or hydroplane.
- Ensure that your tires are in good condition and inflated properly, which will help to prevent issues associated with poor traction.
